25 Years of Youthwise
Youthwise is a detached youth work project. It was one of the first of its type, in Birmingham, established in 1985 as a result of an initiative by the B3 Police and Community Consultative Committee. At the time many young people were choosing not to attend the limited number of clubs and organisations that existed for them. They were choosing to gather in groups on the street and in public spaces. However, it was clear that most of these young people were not involved in crime. So in conjunction with the police a way was sought to reach out to these young people in order that they might get support, have access to fun and exciting activities, and be constructively engaged.
To mark this achievement and the achievements of some of the young people we have been working with over the last year we held a 25th anniversary celebration at Kings Heath Cricket Club on February 18th 2011 at 7pm, for young people, families and friends of the charity. Both the local MP and Lord Mayor were in attendance.
